Holly Confirmation in Dramlje

On Sunday, 25 May, we received the sacrament of holy confirmation. The weather was beautiful. 43 children and 4 adults got this sacrament. Three priests and bishop Anton Stres were present. Already on Friday, bishop came to Dramlje in order to check our knowledge concerning feasts, sacraments and the history of the Roman-catholic church. The questions were very difficult. Bishop had never asked such difficult questions before. At Sunday school we were preparing ourselves for eight years for this day. We were learning prayers and the history of religion.

On Sunday, I woke up early in the morning and went to the hairdresser. My brother came from Ljubljana. He is my godfather, and we ate lunch together. After lunch my brother`s girlfriend made me up. Before we went to church my brother gave me a gift. First I read the card. Then I looked at a piece of paper. I could not believe, that it was true. I was very happy. I got a language course on Malta for two weeks. This was one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I was speechless. Then we went to the church. We gathered at the parish house. At 3 p.m. we entered the church together. The mass was very, very long. Then people were taking pictures and eventually we went to my cousin Grega`s house (just my family and my relatives), where we continued our celebration. I got many gifts. We had a great time, except for the time when Grega threw a ball at my nose (non-intentionally) and I started bleeding. I went to sleep at 2 a.m. On Monday I woke up at 11 a.m. and went to Grega`s house, where my mum was helping to clean the dishes from the party.
I will never forget 25 May 2008!

PREPARING FOR PROM

In September 2007 some students decided to organise Prom, they suggested some topics, which could appear there. Other students contributed with buying some balloons and things like that. At the beginning of school year, everybody thought, oh this Prom, it's so far away, we've got so much time for preparing to it, it will never come. However, we were very wrong.
On our first dance class, we were very excited. We couldn't wait to hear what dances will we dance on Prom. We were a bit disappointed when we hear how many dances will we have. Our plan was to dance five dances with our partner and one with our parents. At the beginning we made many mistakes, but eventually we learned everything and it all looked great. We included photos from 1. st to 9. th grade, two plays, a band, choreography and of course dance.
In May we went through the program for Prom. There were still some weaknesses but they disappeared by practice. Our Prom is going to be great.

· What about your preparing for Prom, have you made any mistakes?
· Was it fun or hard?
· What did you include?
· How is your Prom going to look?

Trip to Rašica and Ljubljana

On 15th May all the students from sixth to ninth grade at our school with a special achievement of any kind went on a prize trip. Some of us read books and told about them to our Slovene teacher and some of other students accomplishments were based on other things, for example, National English Competition contest or something like that.
Anyway, at approximately quarter to eight in the morning we headed to Rašica, where Primož Trubar, author of the first Slovenian book, was born. We saw his birthplace (not the original house, because that was burned in the past), his fathers' mill and beautiful nature around his home. There was also a memorial room, where a man gave us some information (that we, ninethgraders already knew) about renaissance and humanism and about the position that Trubar lived in, and how much courage was needed to publish a book in those days.
At three o' clock, we were already in Ljubljana where we went sightseeing. We went to Cankarjev dom, where all the important performances and shows take place. We saw all the halls that are there. And at the end, we took a walk to the old part of Ljubljana.
Although, I haven't seen anything new (we went to Ljubljana in April, too), it was sort of funny to travel with students that aren't my schoolmates. Oh yes, and we should order a little cloudier weather next time because it was absolutely too hot.

EUROPEAN VILLAGE

On Friday, 9th May we went to the city center, where we visited the European village. The performance has taken place each year since Slovenia entered EU.

Many schools participated by introducing different countries; our school had to introduce Slovenia. My schoolmates wore typical clothes of different Slovenian regions, There was of course” potica” to taste on our stall and our school choir sang two folk songs. Other schools presented other European countries and we could learn a lot about different cultures. We tasted delicious food and learnt many new expressions. I interviewed some of my classmates and almost all of them think that European day was very successful, They learned a lot about new worlds and really felt the atmosphere of the European countries.

It was a beautiful day, the event itself very successful and full of energtic young people who were active all the time.

  • What is your opinion about the Day of Europe
  • Which country in Europe attracts you most and why?
  • Which stall do you think was the best and why?
  • My classmates had to interview some people in the European village about their experience with other cultures and languages. What do you think about cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and the importance of languages

Rules...

And now for some rules!

Not much different from the ones you know from your blogs, just an addition or two:

- English only! Otherwise this and similar blogs are useless.

- Do not make deliberate mistakes! Mistakes are good because they are a sign of progress, but not if you make them on purpose.

- Be polite! Tell your opinion in a civilized way even if you do not agree with someone.

- Tell us who you are! Hiding behind anonymity and writing foolish remarks takes very little courage, whereas, disclosing your identity and standing by your words is part of being mature.

- Never ever, make fun of other participants for their use of English! Nobody’s English is perfect. We are all learners, even the authors of these rules.

- Oh, and yes: have fun!

Your teachers!
